Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devender Singh Rana Tuesday made a passionate appeal to writers, poets, academicians, intellectuals, and intelligentsia to play their crucial role in promoting and preserving Dogri.
A statement of BJP issued here said that releasing ‘Moti Mahal’, children book in Dogri written by Chanchal Sharma at a function organised by Nami Dogri Sanstha (NDS), Rana, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that if the present generation fails in its duty, the posterity would never forgive as the death of a language was the death of the soul.
Rana advocated the use of mother tongue in day-to-day interaction, saying catching them young would make children proud inheritors of the language.
He lauded the literary contribution of Dogri writers and poets for their relentless campaign to restore the pristine glory of this language.
“More than sermons, the work done at the grassroots levels by scholars, writers and artists matters the most,” Rana said.
He said the collective effort would yield dividends and the day was not far when Dogri would attain its glory.
Rana said that harmonious growth of the society depends greatly on reclamation of the language and it was heartening that a sustained effort was being made in this regard in Jammu by all, irrespective of religion and caste.
He said that Dogri was a sweet language and had a rich vocabulary.
