J&K sees further slide in COVID graph

Srinagar, June 6: The Covid graph in J&K continues to slide as the UT recorded fresh 1440 covid cases, lowest in 52 days, while 23 fatalities were attributed to viral respiratory illness in the last 24-hours even as the number of coronavirus positive cases has crossed 3 lakh mark.

According to doctors, the lockdown has started to show its full impact as the daily cases are coming down from a peak of over 5000 cases a day to 1400 cases. Similarly, the number of deaths attributed to covid has also declined for the last two weeks.

   

As per the details shared by the health department on Sunday, of the total 1440 reported in J&K, 338 were from Jammu division and 1102 from Kashmir, with it the number of total Covid positive cases have crossed 3 lakh.

The total number of persons tested positive for last one year is 300490 of which major percentage has been reported from Kashmir, which accounts for 185601 infection cases so far. Jammu has reported 114889 cases.

With decline in cases, the positivity rate has also come down drastically. Out of 50253 tests done by the administration in the UT in the last 24-hours, 1440 tested positive which means the positivity rate of 2.53.

Along with the lowest tally of Covid infection cases reported after 52 days, J&K also witnessed a dip in deaths attributed to viral illness.

On Sunday 23 persons succumbed after testing positive for the virus, of which 8 deaths were reported from Jammu division and 15 from Kashmir, taking the tally of total deaths to 4074.

As per the details shared by the health department, 01 died in GMC Jammu, 01 in Super Speciality Hosp Jammu, 02 in GMC Rajouri, 01 in CH Udhampur, 01 in AKG Hosp Kathua, 01 in Amandeep Hosp Amritsar, 01 in Home/ Brought Dead, 02 in SMHS Sgr, 02 in SKIMS JVC Bemina, 03 in SKIMS Soura, 02 in JLNM Srinagar, 02 in GMC Baramulla, 01 in CD Hosp Sgr, 01 in DH Pulwama, 01 in GMC Anantnag and 01 in DH Bandipora.

Regarding the Covid infection cases, there is considerable dip in infection cases witnessed in all the districts of J&K. Srinagar district which has reported the highest number of cases, for the last two days is reporting cases below 300.

Srinagar reported 264 cases, Baramulla 136, Budgam 145, Pulwama 123, Kupwara 103, Anantnag 86, Bandipora 40, Ganderbal 45, Kulgam 140, Shopian 20, Jammu 70, Udhampur 13, Rajouri 46, Doda 47, Kathua 21, Samba 16, Kishtwar 10, Poonch 70, Ramban 27 and Reasi 18.

Apart from decline in infection and deaths, the Covid recovery rate in the UT has shown an upward trend. J&K also witnessed higher number of recoveries than cases. As many as 3099 more Covid-19 patients have recovered—920 from Jammu division and 2179 from Kashmir. With it there is decline in active cases also. There are 26741 active cases—9620 from Jammu and 17121 in Kashmir.

The number of Covid patients hospitalized too has witnessed a drastic decline. As on Sunday as per the official details 1633 patients stand admitted across J&K , the total number of hospital beds designated for Covid patients is 5792 which implies more than 50 percent of the hospital beds are vacant.

The number of patients requiring medical oxygen in hospitals is 1347 and 85 are on ventilator support.
