Kashmir's leading trade organisations Tuesday said that any attempt to weaken the socio-religious and political institutions with "motivated accusations" will not be tolerated.
Addressing a press conference here, Abdul Majid Mir,vice-president, Kashmir chamber of commerce and industry (KCCI) said that underthe present "abnormal" conditions prevailing in the state, the government must"act more cordially to avoid harassment to Kashmiris."
"The government must realise that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is thereligious head of the state. The Mirwaiz family is connected with the people ofKashmir for past many centuries. They have remained the torchbearers ofimparting education and inculcating spiritual and moral values among people,apart from carrying out social services," Mir said.
He said that Kashmir's business community has joined handsto register protest against "repeated harassment" of leaders, institutions andorganisations in Kashmir.
"Socio-religious institutions are a part of our history andculture. Their role in the upliftment of the poor, supporting orphans andimparting education and Islamic values amongst majority of population isunparalleled," Mir said.
Earlier, reading out a joint statement, Mir said: "Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid under the patronage of Mirwaiz sahab is continuing with its philanthropic activities.
The business community of Kashmir condemns in unison the brazen attempts at politicisation of the situation in the Valley. Across India, Kashmiris are being targeted economically and socially.
A section of social and electronic media is being used to tarnish our image. A number of innocent people and leaders have been jailed and are being intimidated. The Valley appears to be under siege. Our socio-religious institutions are being interfered with."
"There seems to be a concerted attempt to cause disruptionsand provoke the peace-loving population and the government should takeimmediate corrective measures for defusing the situation," the statement read.
The trade organisations which were part of the joint pressconference, among others, included: Kashmir chamber of commerce and industry(KCCI); Kashmir economic alliance (KEA); Kashmir traders and manufacturersfederation (KTMF); federation chamber of industries Kashmir (FCIK);Shehr-e-Khaas coordination committee (SKCC); Kashmir traders and manufacturersfederation (R); Jamia traders' association; beopar mandal SR Gunj; centraltraders and manufacturers association and Kashmir welfare transportersassociation.
