Kupwara: A pall of gloom descended on Gagal village of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district when two six-year-old kids died after falling into a water-filled pit on Tuesday.

An official said that the duo had been playing in the vicinity during which they fell into the pit.

He said that after hearing the screams of the duo, the passersby rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

“They were immediately taken out of the pit and rushed to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara where both were declared dead on arrival,” he said.

According to locals, the pit had been dug by a local contractor on the roadside and its water was being used for some construction purpose in the area.

The deceased kids were identified as Mustafa Ahmad Bhadana, son of Muhammad Qasim, and Sumaiya Akhter, daughter of Abdul Kareem.
