Kulgam: Forty employees were found absent from duties in various departments of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday and all of them would face a one-day salary cut.

An official said that on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Bilal Mohuddin, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) conducted a surprise inspection of various government offices in the district.

“During the inspection, 42 employees were found absent from their duties,” he said.

An official said that it has been impressed upon all the delinquent officials to explain their position within two days as to why action, as envisaged under law, should not be initiated against them.

“If they fail, it will be presumed that they have nothing to say in their defense and action as warranted under the relevant rules should follow,” he said.

An official said that all the concerned DDOs were directed that an amount equivalent to the one-day salary of the absent employees be deposited in District Red Cross Society Kulgam in cash against a proper receipt.
