5 OGWs arrested in Pulwama: Police

Srinagar: Five Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the militants were arrested from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, Police said.

“During the investigation of cases about multiple grenade attacks in Pulwama district, Police busted a network of active associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba by arresting five OGWs,” Police said.

Police identified them as Showket Islam Dar, son of Muhammad Rustum Dar; Aijaz Ahmad Lone, son of Muhammad Abdullah; Aijaz Gulzar Lone, son of Gulzar Ahmad; Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Muhammad and Nasser Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Rasool, all residents of Lelhar Pulwama.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the module was acting as a sleeper cell and was involved in procurement as well as transportation of arms and ammunition,” Police said. “They were also involved in carrying out grenade attacks on security forces at the behest of their handlers.”

Police said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

“A case under FIR No 139/2021 has been registered at Police Station Kakapora,” Police said.
