Srinagar: Six drug peddlers were arrested and contraband substances recovered from their possession in Anantnag, Police said Monday.

A statement of J&K Police issued here said that in Anantnag, at a checkpoint established near Bilal crossing, Police intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle identified as Kowsar Ahmad Khanday of Vessu Qazigund and Bilal Ahmad Naikoo of Cheni Chowk Anantnag.

It said that during checking, Police recovered 7160 capsules of banned drugs from their possession.

The Police statement said that they were arrested and a motorcycle involved in the commission of crime was also seized.

It said that in Kulgam, Police at a checkpoint established near Alstop on the national highway intercepted a vehicle (JK14B-6054) driven by one Muhammad Rafiq Barger son of Lowermunda.

The statement said that during checking, Police recovered 12 kg poppy straw and 700 gm charas from his possession.

It said that he was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.

The Police statement said that at a checkpoint established at Choimulla Qazigund, Police intercepted an oil tanker with two persons on board identified as Sahab Singh alias Rishpal Singh of Bagwanthnagar Sura, UP and Shahid Gul son of Panzath.

It said that during checking, Police recovered 2 kg of poppy from their possession.

The statement said that they were arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime seized.

It said that in Ganderbal, at a checkpoint established at Banday Bagh near Husnush Chinar point, Police intercepted one suspicious person identified as Mohammad Shahid Gurra of Banday Bagh, Ganderbal.

The statement said that during checking, Police recovered 100 gm charas from his possession.

It said that he has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
