Kupwara: Police in Handwara on Saturday evening arrested an officer of Power Development Department (PDD) for accepting bribe from a contractor.
An official said that a private PDD contractor had approached police, complaining that the officials at PDD office Handwara was demanding money in lieu of releasing his payment which was pending from the last two years.
“After the complaints, Superintendent of Police Handwara Sandeep Gupta along with police party raided PDD office Handwara, during which the accounts officer was arrested red handed for accepting Rs 20,000 as bribe from the contractor” the official said.
Meanwhile, SP Handwara confirmed to Greater Kashmir that the accounts officer has been arrested for accepting bribe.
A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations set into motion.
