Administration to get tough on public property defacement

Anantnag: The district administration in Anantnag has decided to get tough on those indulging in defacement of the public property.

The orders in this regard were issued by District Magistrate Anantnag Piyush Singla under Section 144.

It has asked all the advertising agencies and commercial authorities that have erected hoardings and banners without being authorised to take these down within seven days.

The order said that commercial interests cannot be carried out at the cost of damage to public property.

“Anybody found violating the order after the expiry of a week will have to face action,” it said.

The unauthorised installation of hoardings and advertisements on public property is a crime under the law.

The order expresses concern on rampant defacement of public property and public utility in the Anantnag district by way of writing or marking by ink, chalk, print, and other material.

“Hoardings have been installed on Chinar trees and at other unauthorised places,” it said.

All the concerned institutional heads and offices in charge of the building have been asked to ensure that all such material is removed from the building.

“District Floriculture Officer should ensure removing hoardings and advertisements from the Chinar trees immediately,” the order said.
