APPOINTMENT OF VC IN CUK | Interaction of shortlisted candidates with search committee postponed

Srinagar: The interaction of the candidates shortlisted for the post of Vice Chancellor (VC) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) with the search committee scheduled for today was postponed at the eleventh hour.

A top official alleged that said some vested interests were trying to delay the process for appointment of new VC of the university and that is why the interaction of the shortlisted candidates was delayed.

“There is a lot of politics going on due to which the appointment of the permanent VC is being delayed under the pretext of one or the other reason,” a top officer informed Greater Kashmir.

He said the shortlisted candidates were informed at the eleventh hour about the postponement of their interaction with the search committee.

“The internal politics has made a mockery of the appointment of VC for the university,” he said.

As already reported by this newspaper, around 14 candidates including three professors from Kashmir were shortlisted for their interaction with the search committee constituted to draw a panel of candidates for the appointment of the new vice chancellor of CUK.

The three Professors from Valley shortlisted for their interaction include Prof Shakeel Ahmd Romshoo incumbent VC Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi of Biotechnology department KU and Prof Muhammad Afzal Zargar who is currently Registrar CUK. Among other candidates shortlisted for the post include Prof Javed Musarrat, former VC Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University.

Also, professors from Pune University, Allahabad University, University of Mumbai, Aligarh Muslim University and Osmania University Hyderabad have been shortlisted for the post.

Around 200 applications were received from the eligible candidate for the post of the VC CUK out of which 14 people were shortlisted by the committee.

The members of the search committee constituted by the Government of India include a renowned academician and former VC Jalees Ahmed Khan Tareen, Prof. Jawahar, Prof. S P Singh, Prof. G Gopa Kumar, Former VC Central University Kerala and Prof Harish Rathore, Former VC Central University South Bihar.

The deferment in the interaction of the shortlisted candidates will further delay the process for appointment of VC CUK, an official said.

“The selection process consumed a lot of time till now and now these deferments will further delay the process due to which the university will not get a permanent VC soon,” he said.
