Srinagar: A joint tree plantation drive was organised by Army and Forest Department at Banihal, with voluntary participation of locals and police, a defence spokesman said.

In a statement, he said 90 saplings were planted at Gund, Chareel and Karawa with an aim to expand the green cover. “The importance of tree plantation in shaping the clean environment and its dividends in reducing soil erosion and global warming were discussed with the gathering under the motto -Plant Trees- Save Life,” the spokesman said.

He added that the event saw an active and enthusiastic participation by the residents of Banihal also.The local population was very appreciative of the joint efforts of Army and Forest Department in conserving the forest and maintaining stable ecosystem, the spokesman said.
