COLD WAVE GRIPPING KASHMIR | Hundreds throng Sunday Market to buy woolens

Srinagar: With night temperature dropping below zero in Srinagar and an intense cold wave gripping whole Kashmir, Sunday Market here today witnessed huge rush of shoppers, buying woolens.

The shoppers were seen busy choosing and picking the favourite woolen clothes from the makeshift stalls. The vendors expressed happiness over the good business they did today.

   

They said that with cold wave intensifying with every passing day the sale of warm clothes has increased manifold.

Vendors had put up stalls on the TRC Chowk-Batamaloo axis through the Lal Chowk city centre.

The customers had a variety of choice while choosing the items. Those included sweaters and blankets.

Abdul Bashit a shopper said that as weather is getting cold he thought of purchasing warm clothes for his children. “Here in Sunday Market you get variety of clothes and that too on low rates,”he said.

Not only the people from Srinagar city reached Sunday Market for shopping, but those from some other parts of Kashmir were purchasing the items of their choice.

“I along with my other family members left Baramulla early in morning for the shopping of warm clothes. We purchased warm cloths of our choice,” said Bashir Ahmad.

One of the shoppers from Bandipora said that Sunday market is actually for people belonging to middle strata of income who cannot afford to purchase and wear costly branded cloths. “So I along with my friends came here to do shopping for winters,” he said and added that they do shopping in Sunday Market in Summers as well

The vendors too were jubilant with the influx of shoppers. They said today market witnessed huge rush of shoppers. “Most of the shoppers purchased woolen and it is having a great demand,” they said.

Over the years, Sunday Market has emerged as the hub of attraction for Sunday shoppers. Thousands of people, especially those who remain busy on weekdays, can be seen thronging the market.
