Jammu: Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta Saturday directed the Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries (ASH&F) Department to add Rs 1500 crore to the economy of Jammu and Kashmir in the next three years.
Reviewing the functioning of the ASH&F Department, Mehta said that a huge potential exists for the department to further enhance income and livelihood in J&K to the extent of Rs 1500 crore over the next 3 years.
The chief secretary said that the combined initiatives towards enhancement of qualitative production of apple, cash crops, poultry, fodder, and meat had the potential of adding around Rs 5000 crore to the economy in the medium term.
He said that market linkages would have to be provided for export of trout fish considering significant enhancement in trout breeding and production and asked the department to be a facilitator and encourage private players to be a part of the initiative.
The chief secretary also emphasised initiatives under convergence and asked the department to look for programmes that could be undertaken with related departments like Agriculture Production, Horticulture, Forest, and Rural Development Department.
