Kupwara: The residents of Bunpora Keegam in north Kashmirs’ Kupwara district Thursday expressed resentment against the authorities for failing to upgrade the facilities in their area.

The residents said that they were suffering due to the lack of better road connectivity.

They said that the link road of their village was dotted with potholes at multiple spots.

Locals said that during rain, they are forced to navigate through waters to reach their respective destinations, and the school-going children and aged people were the worst sufferers.

The residents said that the erratic power supply to their area was a concern for years now.

They said that the rotten wooden electric poles and dangling electric wires were posing a threat to the locals and accused the authorities of doing nothing in this regard.

“We at Panchayat level had allocated required funds to the Power Development Department (PDD) several months ago for procurement of an electric transformer and electric wire but we do not know why the department was dillydallying,” a member of the local Panchayat said.

The residents said that they were fed up with the false promises made by the successive dispensations and sought immediate intervention of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha to redress their grievances.

District Development Council (DDC) Natnussa member, Zahoor Ahmad acknowledged the hardships being faced by the locals and said that the approach road of Bunpora, Keegam had been kept in plan and would be renovated next year.

Regarding electric supply, he said that the people across Kupwara district were suffering due to erratic and unsubstantial power cuts.

“The present dispensation should do something concrete to augment the power supply so that people get some respite,” he said.
