Srinagar: There is no headway in the appointment of Vice Chancellor for Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST)-Kashmir as the search committee has convened only one meeting till date.

The process for drawing a panel of candidates for the post of VC SKUAST-K was started afresh in June after the previous committee was quashed by the government. This is the second committee constituted to draw a panel of candidates for the appointment of VC for SKUAST-K.

As already reported by this newspaper, the first search committee was constituted in July 2020. The government had invited applications from the eligible candidates as well.

After a passage of almost one year, the government reconstituted the search committee afresh in June this year which is headed by Dr Mangala Rai, former VC G.B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar Uttar Pradesh.

Other members include Director General Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Chairman, UGC or his nominee and Financial Commissioner Finance department Atal Dulloo.

While the University has invited applications afresh, the process initiated by the previous search committee was treated null and void. Notably the last date for submission of application was fixed as August 7. A top official said the committee met once wherein it was decided that the data of the candidates will be tabulated and submitted before the committee.

“The meeting was scheduled for October 20 or 22 and it was decided to tabulate the data of the applicants. But the meeting was not convened then. Till date no effective meeting was convened,” member of the committee Atal Dulloo said. The J&K government has assigned the additional charge of VC SKUAST-Kashmir to the VC SKUAST-Jammu, J P Sharma.
