Rajouri: The ongoing anti-militancy operation in areas of Rattan Pir, Marha, and Dar Dhok near Behramgala area of Poonch’s Surankote subdivision entered the second day Wednesday with security forces intensifying the manhunt to trace the remaining militants suspected to be in the area.
The operation started in the wee hours on Tuesday after security forces received information about the suspected movement of militants in the area, official sources said.
They said that while the cordon was laid, a militant attempted to escape by firing at security forces but was killed in the firing by the forces.
The anti-militancy operation entered the second day with the surrounding areas remaining under cordon, the sources said.
They said that the manhunt launched in the area to track the remaining militants was intensified on Wednesday but no fresh contact could get established between the militants and the security forces.
They said that one or two militants were believed to be in the area which has a dense forest cover.
Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch, Vinod Kumar told Greater Kashmir that the security forces were on job in the area and the operation had entered the second day.
