‘Situation in J&K belies Centre’s claims’

Srinagar: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah Tuesday said that the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir belied the projected claims of peace and development by the Centre on the abrogation of the Articles 370 and Article 35-A.

Addressing the Kashmir provincial committee meeting at NC’s Nawa-e-Subha party headquarters in Srinagar, he said: “We were told that J&K was poised for big development and massive investment post 5 August 2019. Where is it? The ground reality in the streets and roads of J&K belie such claims. Where is the projected dawn?

On the contrary, the ruling dispensation has made J&K a simmering cauldron of discontent with its lopsided policies. Where are the anticipated results? After the rescinding of the provisions of Article 370, the picture has changed to worse. The reality is that there is a systematic disempowerment of people of J&K that is continuing to happen through a bureaucratic rule.

The claims of the BJP government that the abrogation of Article 370 and downgrading of a State with special status into two union territories has paved the way for new industries, created new employment opportunities, decreased militancy, brought an atmosphere of peace and security, nurtured democracy, eradicated corruption, brought new central laws for the betterment of people in this region are far-fetched. The ground situation belies these claims.”
