Ganderbal, June 10:Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal has witnessed the drowning of many youth, leading to calls of prohibiting swimming in it.
Nallah Sindh is thronged by hundreds of people during the summers and to beat the heat, youth are often seen taking a dip in it.
Locals said many people have no idea about the depth of the waters in Sindh, resulting in many adventures turning into tragedies.
They also called for having awareness campaigns on deaths by drowning and urged the district administration to impose a ban on swimming in Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal.
Bashir Ahmad, a volunteer rescuer, said that the administration should make available all necessary life saving equipment to the local volunteers who have been involved in rescue operations and saved people from drowning.
Parvaiz Ahmad, a local said that the administration should erect warning boards at accident-prone places.
