NIA arrests Awantipora youth in 2017 attack on CRPF

The National Investigation Agency on Monday arrested a youth from Awantipora for his alleged involvement in an attack on Central Reserve Police Force in Lethpora, Pulwama, in 2017.

Inspector general of police NIA Alok Mittal said the arrested youth, Fayaz Ahmad Magray son of late Jalalludin Magray of Lethpora, was an overground worker of Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit that had carried out the attack.

Three militants and five CRPF personnel were killed and three soldiers were injured in the attack.

Mittal said Fayaz provided “logistical support such as providing shelter to the militants and conducting reconnaissance of the CRPF group centre, Lethpora, before the attack”.

“In 2001 also, he was detained under Public Safety Act by Jammu and Kashmir police and he remained under detention for 16 months,” he added.

He said that Fayaz will be produced in the special NIA court Jammu to seek his custody for “further investigation”.
