The residents of the Awathkul Meelyal area in the Kupwara district have expressed resentment against the authorities for failing to ensure better healthcare facilities in their area.
They said that after the passage of several decades, successive dispensations have miserably failed to fulfill the demands of the common masses.
“We belong to an area that remains snow-bound in the winter. It takes a toll on us whenever there is any medical emergency in our area,” a local said. “Due to limited public transport in our area, most of the time we have to shoulder our patients on make-shift stretchers to reach the nearby health centre at Kralpora which is 8 km from Awathkul.”
Locals demanded that a health centre be set up in their area at the earliest so that people who have been suffering for long would get some respite.
They appealed to Lieutenant Governor (LG) ManojSinha and Director Health Services Kashmir DrMushtaq Rather to look into the matter so that their long-pending demand was fulfilled.
