The residents of Rengpath and other adjacent villages have expressed strong resentment against the authorities for failing to renovate the existing building of the health centre at Rengpath village of Kupwara.

The residents said that the plinth and walls of the building had got damaged several years ago but the concerned authorities were doing nothing for its renovation, much to the disappointment of the locals. They said that the deplorable and pathetic condition of the health centre building poses a threat to the employees and patients.

“Since I am a hypertensive patient and visit the health centre usually for a checkup, I always remain apprehensive that the building might collapse,” said an octogenarian of the area.

The condition of the building has left the employees anguished. They said that the building presents a deplorable condition and needs immediate renovation so that a tragedy could be thwarted.

The residents of the area said that the existing building is an old one and renovating it would not serve any purpose. They demanded that a new building be constructed for the health centre.

The residents demanded that the health centre be upgraded to the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) so that a huge chunk of the population benefits from better healthcare facilities.

Block Medical Officer Langate, DrGowhar said that the health department had taken up the renovation issue with the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department.

“R&B officials have been asked to furnish a report about the safety of the building. If the R&B officials declare the existing building unsafe, we will come up with a new building at Rengpath,” he said.
