The future of the world lies in the hands of the children. Whether the future is a positive or negative one, depends on the children and the education they receive. The education of a child is so valuable that one needs to consider the importance of child’s education seriously. Also, one needs to consider how to go about nurturing these bright minds so that one day they are able to become independent individuals. As educators, we need to be aware of the short term effects as well as the long term effects in which education may play on the child’s views of the world. The child’s views are to be constructed, in a sense. The construction of the mind of a child is an art. And this art is only known to teachers.
In order to be able to provide good education to our children, it is necessary for us to be good teachers. Teachers are one of the best creations of God on this earth. APJ Abdul Kalam once said, “Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber and future of an individual.” In fact, a good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instil a love of learning.
Some teachers may work with students to create the class environment. Others may force a class environment on students. Regardless of the approach the teacher might adopt, he holds the absolute power even before a student enters the classroom. The teacher is the one that chooses what mentality and materials are going to be used during the school time. He creates and plans the lessons. These lessons make a huge difference. He knows how children are to be assessed and placed in levels that fit their respective capabilities. And finally, the teacher devises what set of goals he night have for the class, the different set of teaching techniques he would like to use and the set of expectations he might have for each student. The teacher is the one that decides what he wants to concentrate on, how to go about transmitting it, and the outcome he expects.
Education is a key element that directs one’s life to success. By having knowledge, one holds the power to make goals a reality. Teachers are responsible to help goals, such as, learning to read become a reality. It’s the responsibility of the teacher to give students the best quality of education in order for the students to be able to have a positive experience as well as success in life. According to William Arthur ward, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. And the great teacher inspires.” As teachers, it is our responsibility to teach, guide and inspire. As teachers, we must be morally so sound that our morality casts a bright and positive shadow on the morality of our students. We are the part of an oppressed society. We belong to a society which has been living in a shadow of hope since decades. Our society has been and is a witness of a number of student revolts and self immolations. We must act as an antidote to these. If we in case, slightly part from our responsibilities, the result may be such a huge corruption that our generations cannot compensate that. Lets learn our responsibly and stick to the true values of the teaching and learning process.
