Pak delegation to visit Pakal Dul dam site today

A Pakistani delegation, which arrived on Monday morning in Jammu to inspect hydro power projects along the Chenab river basin, will be visiting Pakal Dul dam site on Tuesday.

A Pakistani delegation, which arrived on Monday morning in Jammu to inspect hydro power projects along the Chenab river basin, will be visiting Pakal Dul dam site on Tuesday.

The delegation comprising Indus Commissioner Syed Mohammad Mehar Ali Shah, joint commissioner Usman Ghani and NESPAK engineer Mehmood Hayat, along with Indian counterparts led by Indus Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Saxena, reached Kishtwar, 230 kilometers from Jammu, in the evening.

On Tuesday, the team will be visiting the1000-Megawatt PakalDul project site.

On 30 January, the delegation will be inspecting Lower Kalnai, Rattle and Baghlihar Hydro projects before returning to New Delhi on January 31.

The inspection is mandated under the Indus Water Treaty. This tour is an obligation imposed on both the countries by the Indus Waters Treaty 1960 between India and Pakistan. Under the treaty, both the commissioners are mandated to inspect sites and works on both the sides of Indus basin in five years. Since signing of the treaty, a total of 118 such tours on both the sides have been undertaken by the commission.
