Pakistani smuggler killed, 27 kg heroin seized along IB: BSF

Jammu, June 23: Border Security Force (BSF) Wednesday shot dead a Pakistani smuggler and recovered 27 kg heroin along the International Border near Vinay Border out Post (BoP) in Hiranagar area of Kathua district.

“We had inputs about possible attempts of narcotic smuggling from across the border in Kathua. Based on these inputs, BSF troops were on alert and last night around 2:30 am, they noticed a suspicious movement of three to four people who were approaching Indian side,” said Inspector General of BSF Jammu Frontier, N S Jamwal.

Jamwal told journalists that the smuggler had crossed the zero-line and reached close to the fence compelling the troops on duty in the forward area to open fire when no response to his repeated warning was given.

“In morning, a search of the area was conducted in which 27 kg heroin was seized. However, no weapon has been recovered from the spot,” IG BSF said.

Quoting preliminary investigation of the incident, he said: “The consignment was wrapped in a cloth with 27 packets of 1 kg each to push it using a plastic pipe into this side of the fence. However, the receiver of the consignment could not reach there.”

Jamwal said that he seems to be a Pakistani national and he responded while informing them that they had contacted Pakistani Rangers to identify the smuggler.

“The Rangers have visited the spot and they can’t deny the incident,” he said.

Jamwal said that the BSF would put a strong protest note to Pakistan Rangers with evidence.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been started to ascertain the person who had to receive this consignment.
