Governor Satya Pal Malik Wednesday said people should sympathise with the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti's situation than taking her statements seriously.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at the Jammu University, Malik said, "Why should people sympathise with the situation and problems of Mehbooba Mufti? Elections are just around the corner. Her party is breaking apart. Her party is in a bad shape. She got power by this tactic only and now she is only trying to save her party by commenting against the forces and India's political system. So she need not be taken seriously".

Governor was reacting to Mehbooba's statement in which she had criticised an army officer for allegedly torturing a youth in Pulwama district.

"The morale of our security forces is high and not affected by statements of Mehbooba Mufti or any such leaders because we stand with them," Malik said.

He, however, added that strict directions have been issued to armed forces and there is no such case of torture by the army.

"We had issued strict directions and there was no evidence of any brutality. However, we came to know about some torture case by the police in the past and tried to investigate it. We stand by the forces and if any specific complaint comes to us we are ready to investigate it," the Governor said.
