Asserting that the resistance leadership would jointly commemorate the Martyrs' Day on July 13, the Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday condemned use of force on Eid-ul-Fitr and said that "people will not be cowed down by such oppressive and suppressive tactics."
"The attack on people coming to offer Eid prayers was an attack on the congregation and unity of Muslims," Mirwaiz said, addressing Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here.
"Cane-charge, teargas shelling and state-sponsored terror unleashed on the people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr at the historic Eidgah in Srinagar and other places in Kashmir is pure state terrorism."
On Eid day, dozens of people including men, women and children were injured after police and CRPF personnel burst tear smoke shells and cane charged the devotees. "This was the gift of the PDP-BJP coalition government to the Kashmiri people on the occasion of Eid," the Mirwaiz said.
The senior pro-freedom said fear of public assemblies has completely gripped the ruling regime which is not even allowing Eid gatherings now. "And in anticipation they not only cage the resistance leadership but also use Police and paramilitary forces to beat up men, women and even children," he said.
Kashmiri people, he said, would not be cowed down by such oppressive and suppressive tactics.
"The voice for people's rights and their freedom would continue to be raised from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid and the oppressive attitude of the government would fail to break our resolve," he said. Paying glowing tributes to martyrs of July 13, 1931, he said the foundation for Kashmir's freedom struggle was laid on this day which the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee observes with admiration ever since it was founded by Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq. He said this year the united resistance leadership has decided to observe this day jointly and with unity.
Urging people to observe the day as per the joint programme to be presented before them on Saturday on behalf of Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and his Hurriyat (M), the Mirwaiz called for making the programme a success.
Terming the situation in entire Islamic world as dangerous and a matter of concern for the entire Muslim Ummah, he made a passionate appeal to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) specially Saudia Arabia, Iran and Pakistan to come forward and help the Muslim Ummah overcome the deadly state-of-affairs they are caught in.
Stressing that OIC and responsible Muslim countries were equally responsible for the situation the Islamic world was caught in, the Mirwaiz said it would be unfortunate if they still fail to come forward to deal with the crisis at hand.
Terming the terrorist attack in Madinah Munawarah as cowardly and barbaric, he said Muslims can bear anything but not the desecration of their holy sites.
