Srinagar, June 2: Asking people to follow COVID19 SOPs, Srinagar Police embarked on an awareness drive and distributed face masks among people in public places.

Several police teams led by senior police officers distributed masks among people in Downtown Srinagar Hazratbal, Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Nishat, Khanyar, Parimpora and Rajbagh.

Officials said the drive was launched on the instruction of Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.

Field-level police officers that includes zonal SPs, SHOs and SDPOs said people found in public places without wearing masks were advised to wear it in the wake of pandemic in COVID-19 cases in city and elsewhere so as to guard themselves from getting infected. The spread of the viral infection was also being conveyed to the public.

Nakas establish at vantage points where the need to strictly adhere to safety protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining personal distancing at public places and hand washing were being driven home to the general public besides the symptoms of COVID-19 as part of awareness creation, the officers further said that awareness was also being created through public address system on the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent oneself from getting infected.
