Policeman killed in Srinagar militant attack

Srinagar, June 17: Militants Thursday evening shot dead a policeman in Eidgah area of Srinagar, police said.

The slain was identified as Javid Ahmad Kambay son of Ghulam Muhammad, a resident of Saidpora area of Srinagar, police said. Police said the slain cop was presently posted with a retired judge and had returned from home some time ago.

   

A senior police officer said that the cop was fired upon from point blank range with a pistol. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the attackers were two in number and have fired from a pistol,” the officer told the Greater Kashmir. “He was shifted to SKIMS but was declared ‘brought dead’.”

The officer said that a massive hunt has been launched to nab the attackers. “Searches are underway in the area,” he added.
