Presidential candidate Meira Kumar visiting Kashmir today
The Congress-led opposition's presidential candidate Meira Kumar will arrive here on Sunday to garner support from J&K legislators for the July 17 polls.
"She will interact with NC and Congress legislators at SKICC," PCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir told Greater Kashmir.
Kumar will be accompanied by former Minister for External Affairs Salman Khursheed.
The National Conference is party to the decision taken by 17 opposition parties last month to field Kumar against BJP's Ram Nath Kovind.
Three more MLAs – Muhammad Yosouf Trigram, Hakim Muhmamad Yasin and Er. Rashid – are likely to support Kumar as they have voted for opposition in the Rajya Sabha and MLC polls post formation of PDP-BJP Government in March 2015.
Kumar is likely to get 3576 votes from J&K in the election. With 15 MLAs and one MP, National Conference has a total vote value of 1788. The total vote value of J&K Congress, which has 12 MLAs and one Rajya Sabha MP, is 1572.
The value of vote of each MLA from J&K in the election is 72 while that of MP is 708.
On June 28, BJP's presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind visited Kashmir and met legislators of the ruling coalition at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's residence.
