Two army men were injured when militants attacked a patrolling party of 55 RR at Pathan village of south Kashmir's Pulwma district on Saturday evening. A police official said the militants hurled a grenade and then opened fire on the patrolling party of 55 RR at Pathan village causing minor injuries to two soldiers.
The forces retaliated the fire triggering a brief exchange of firing, the official said, adding that whole area has been cordoned off and a search operation was launched.
A local resident alleged that forces also thrashed some youth during the operation.
Meanwhile, scores of youth came out of their houses and pelted the forces with stones and bricks to hamper the operation.
The operation was underway when the reports last came in.
