Rajouri girl inducted as IAF fighter jet pilot

Rajouri, June 20: A 23-year-old girl from Rajouri has been inducted as fighter jet pilot in Indian Air Force.

Mawya Sudan is the first girl from Rajouri and 12th in the country to have been inducted to the prestigious position.

Sudan was formally inducted on Saturday during an induction ceremony held by the IAF for this year's batch.

Sudan comes from Lamberi village of Nowshera here; her father Vinod Sudan works as a Junior Engineer in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; and her mother Sushma Sharma is a housewife. The family presently lives in Jammu.

The family members said that Sudan was attracted to defence force services since childhood and wished to be a part of force. "She was passionate to be a part of defence forces and finally got inducted," they said.

They said that Sudan’s induction in IAF will open a new era for youth of Rajouri to strive hard to crack such examinations.

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan termed it a matter of pride for everyone. "Ms Mawya Sudan has been indicted in IAF and this is a matter of great pride for everyone," he said.
