Rifle-snatcher killed inside Tral camp: Police

Pulwama, June 3: A rifle-snatcher who was hiding inside the Police Component in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district was killed inside the camp on Thursday, Police said.

According to Police, the man identified as Muhammed Amin Malik, son of Abdul Ahad Malik of NagabalMachama area of Tral, who had snatched a gun from a policeman and injured him while in custody was killed in the camp after he refused to surrender.

   

Police said Malik had been arrested few days ago and had snatched a rifle from a policeman during questioning on Wednesday and shot at the policeman, injuring him.

The injured policeman was identified as Amjad Ahmad.

Police said Amin was on remand and was brought from Police Station Tral to the Police Component Tral for questioning but he snatched rifle from policeman, fired at him and hid inside the generator room.

“Despite repeated offers, Amin did not surrender and kept firing from the generator room. The fire was retaliated by the forces and and he was killed after several hours of exchange of fire,” Police said.

It said that Amin’s family members were brought on the spot to persuade him to surrender but he refused.

Police said Amin, a former militant who had surrender after returning from Pakistan administered Kashmir was released in 2003.

It said that he was again arrested on 30 May 2021 along with incriminating material.

Amin’s body was sent to Police Hospital Srinagar for legal formalities, Police said.
