Srinagar, June 23: Within 24 hours of the killing of a police officer, militants shot dead a shopkeeper in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar Wednesday evening.
The slain shopkeeper was identified as Umar Nazir Bhat, a resident of Kailashpora Habba Kadal.
Police said unidentified gunmen entered Umar’s shop in Habba Kadal and opened fire on him from point blank range. They said that he received bullets in chest and was shifted to SMHS Hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors.
The area has been cordoned and a search operation is underway.
In the last over a week this is the third militancy related incident in Srinagar city. On Tuesday evening militants shot dead a police officer in Nowgam area of Srinagar. On last Thursday militants shot dead a policeman in Eidgah area of Srinagar.
