Sopore truck driver dies in road accident in Punjab

Sopore, June 12: A 38-year-old truck driver from Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district died in a road accident in Punjab’s Phagwara on Friday night, his family said.

The family members of Abdul Hameed Shalla son of Mohammad RamzanShalla of AramporaSopore, a driver by profession, told Greater Kashmir that he was hit by an unknown car at around 11 pm last night when he was crossing the road to buy cigarettes on the roadside, leaving him grievously injured.

   

As per Shalla’s family, the driver of the car, which hit him, immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed. Fearing repercussions, the driver fled from the hospital, the family said.

Shalla was returning home with the truck laden with nails from Punjab where he had arrived a couple of days ago. His body is expected to reach home this afternoon, the family said.

As per a family member, a case has been registered at the concerned police station in Phagwara. “But we don’t know what will happen to the case now,” he added.
