Muhammad Akbar Mir was the younger brother of JKPCC president G A Mir.Special arrangement

Srinagar: Muhammad Akbar Mir, 58, the younger brother of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Ghulam Ahmad Mir, passed away late Monday evening at SKIMS Soura after a brief illness and was laid to rest on Tuesday.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

His death was widely condoled across political circles.

A statement of JKPCC issued here said that Former All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi, National Conference (N) President Farooq Abdullah, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Tariq Hameed Karra, CPI (M) senior leader Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami, Apni Party leaders Ghulam Hassan Mir and Rafi Ahmad Mir, senior PDP leader Abdul Rehman Veeri, Peoples Conference leader Abid Ansari and various other political leaders called JKPCC President G A Mir over the phone and conveyed their condolences on the passing away of his brother.

It said that the rank and file of JKPCC also condoled the passing away of Akbar.

Congress leaders from Jammu including JKPCC vice presidents Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, and Kanta Bhan, general secretaries Abdul Majid Wani, Thakur Balwan Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, and Shah Muhammad Choudhary, treasurer Rajnish Sharma, chief spokesman Ravinder Sharma, DCC presidents Shabir Ahmed Khan, Hari Singh Chib, Pankaj Dogra, Sanjeev Sharma, Rajesh Sadhotra, Sheikh Mujeeb, Farooq Katoch, and secretaries frontal heads including Indu Pawar of Mahila Congress and Shiv Kumar Sharma (INTUC) condoled the demise of Akbar and conveyed their condolences to JKPCC chief G A Mir.

Meanwhile, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari expressed condolences over the demise of G A Mir’s brother.

A statement of the Apni Party issued here said that Bukhari described the deceased as a pious and kind-hearted person who was endowed with a generous and hospitable nature.

“My heartfelt solidarity goes out to the bereaved family. I also pray for eternal peace to the departed soul and endurance to the bereaved family members especially G A Mir Sahab to bear this huge loss,” he said.

The Apni Party leadership also conveyed their sympathies with the bereaved family. “We pray for eternal peace to the departed soul and patience to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss,” the Apni Party leadership said.

Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman Hakeem Yaseen also condoled the demise of Akbar and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family. A statement of PDF issued here said that Yaseen prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and expressed sympathy with G A Mir.
