Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K unit’s disciplinary committee Monday asked its former MLC Vikram Randhawa to explain his position within 48 hours with regard to his “hatred promoting remarks against a particular community”.
A three-member disciplinary committee headed by Sunil Sethi also “advised” the former MLC to “immediately issue a public apology on the matter pending conclusion of disciplinary proceedings” against him.
He was also directed “not to address media in any form” till proceedings were pending against him.
Besides Sethi, the disciplinary committee comprised Virenderjeet Singh and N D Rajwal as its members.
Seeking explanation, the disciplinary committee in its notice, said that the conduct made by the former MLC was “unacceptable to the party” and had brought “disrepute and embarrassment to the party”.
The notice said, “A video has gone viral in social media in which you are seen making absolutely reckless and hatred promoting remarks against a particular community. This is unacceptable to the party and has brought disrepute and embarrassment to the party. Such type of conduct is likely to dent the public image of the party. As a senior leader and former legislator it is expected of you to conduct yourself in public in a manner which is as per party principles.”
It mentioned, “A very strict and serious view of your reckless and in-disciplined statement in video has been taken by the party president Ravinder Raina and the disciplinary committee of BJP has been asked by the party president to initiate disciplinary proceedings against you. Earlier, disciplinary proceedings against you have also not created a desired impact on your public conduct. You are directed through this notice to explain your position within 48 hours to the disciplinary committee on the issue and also advised to immediately issue a public apology on the matter pending conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against you. You are also directed not to address the media in any form till proceedings are pending against you.”
