Swine flu: Mian Altaf slams Govt over ‘rising’ death toll
Senior National conference leader Mian Altaf Ahmad on Friday expressed his concern over the rising death toll due to swine flu in Kashmir and castigated the health and medical education department for "failing" to act and prevent the spread of the infection.
In a statement, Altaf, the legislator from Kangan constituency in Ganderbal district, said that 21 persons have died so far due to swine flu and the state health authorities have failed to prevent the spread of the disease.
"Forget general public, the government didn't even take care of doctors who are treating the H1N1 patients by providing them any protection gears," Altaf said.
He said that the department tried to "play calm" by saying that people are safe and that there is no need to panic.
"With people having no information about the epidemic level of H1N1, the infection kept on spreading and claimed 21 precious lives," he said, and urged the government particularly the health department to take necessary preventive measures required so that no more precious lives are lost.
