The martyrdom

The first month of Islamic calendar I e Muharram is a reminder and thus a torch bearer of heavenly script of promoting humanity, values, living of substance, distinguishing between good and bad, inculcating all the traits of a good human being and promoting a social and just order based on conscience, ethics, mutual respect, discipline, compassion and orderly governance.

The sixth and seventh century witnessed all round human exploitation, inhuman practices, illiteracy and economic under development. That was the time when a divine Book— Quran-e-Majeed was revealed on Prophet Mohammad (SAW), the last Messenger of the Almighty. Consequently Islam took roots slowly and steadily. And gradually Islamic  Doctrines on account of their divine character started catching the imagination and attention of the people. The holy mission travelled down the history lanes holding substantive applicability in modern times. The original times were difficult, hostile, conspiratorial but the determination to carry forward the divine mission by the Ahle-bait (the close family members of the Prophet  (SAW) and his companions – was equally much stronger in proportion.

In this era a first and last of its kind unique birth of a male boy takes place in the House of GOD ( swt)- the sacred sanctuary of Kaaba on September,1st, 601 AD. It was not a planned place for the purpose but miraculously took place by the circumstantial factors being the wish of God. Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib (AS) was honoured with this first distinction right on first sight of this world. A first cousin in relation of our Prophet (SAW) was later glorified with the marriage to Prophet's daughter Hazrat Fatima Zehra (AS). A distinction earned to be the first person to accept Islam, was a distinguished warrior of Islam and having taken part in almost in all battles . Hazrat Ali earned the titles as " door to the city of Knowledge", Leader of the GOD Conscious", the lion of God etc. He was highly respected as a pious Muslim, a wise advisor and a just ruler as 4th Caliph ( 656-661) besides being firmly devoted to the cause of Islam.

The birth of Imam Hussain born to Hazrat Ali ( a s) and Hazrat Fatima ( s a ) was  yet another historic moment for the humanity. The name ' HUSSAIN ' was  the commencement of a  serial of great honours preserved in heavens. Peep into the history books and try to locate if any name as " HUSSAIN " has ever been heard or documented in preceding 500 years relating to pre birth stage of IMAM HUSSAIN (AS). A name secured in heavens, PROPHET (SAW)  bestowing the honour  on a new born to lead a guiding movement for all human generations. A name bestowed on 'would be martyr ' carried the responsibility of a torch bearer to enlighten the generations with the grand sacrifice, that of his close family members and those on the path of earning pleasure of Almighty. That also included a 75 year old Sahaba Hazrat Habib ibn Mazahir ( a s ) and 6 month old Hazrat Ali Asgar ( AS).

There were visible indications of this heavenly scripted sacrifice given the amount of attention and affection of our Prophet (SAW)  for "Hassnain" (AS), HE had been always hinting about some thing extra ordinary to happen in future concerning Imam Hussain (AS). A room in a sprawling Istanbul museum in Turkey has dedicated wall size thick glass covered shelves for portraying original personal items of Prophet (SAW). One such personal item amongst a good number of other personal memoirs in this heavily safeguarded exclusive glass case which attracts the attention of long queue of daily visitors is the presence of an item marked in English as " Soil Of Karbala" ( what we know here as a Sajda Gah ). It is said that the beloved prophet (SAW) had collected the soil of Karbala personally and had preserved it with a woman in the family named Hazrat Umme Salma ( s a) who happened to be surviving wife at the time of Karbala martyrdom.

The PROPHET's (saww) family members were never driven by an attraction of being in power but only to see around an environment of a religiously guided system, all round welfare and safety and security of the people. As such they had by nature always offered their services and sacrifices for upholding Islamic teachings, public safety and avoidance of bloodshed. They were guided completely by Islamic teachings and living practices of Prophet (SAW) and treasured knowledge of Hazrat Ali  (AS).

The chapter of Karbala will never be forgotten in human history.
