Thousands stranded on Srinagar-Baramulla highway after heavy snowfall

Thousands of people, including women and children, were left stranded on Srinagar-Baramulla highway at Pattan and Sangrama following heavy snowfall on Wednesday.

Talking to Greater Kashmir over phone, several stranded passengers said they were struck at Pattan for past over three hours on the snowbound highway.

They said that the authorities were unable to clear the road from massive traffic jam. “It is a terrible situation for passengers. We are struck at Pattan from more than three hours. Children are weeping and intense cold has further worsened the situation,” said Ghulam Hassan, a stranded passenger.

North Kashmir’s Baramulla and central Kashmir’s Budgam district have been witnessing heavy snowfall since Wednesday afternoon.

A similar situation was witnessed on the roads in Budgam district with vehicles stranded at several places.
