Trucker dies in Leh accident

Srinagar, June 5: A truck driver was killed while his brother (helper on the vehicle) seriously injured after their vehicle fell into a 200 feet deep gorge near Fotula Top on Srinagar-Leh highway during wee hours on Saturday.

Sources said the truck bearing registration number JK01P/8724 on way from Leh to Srinagar met with the accident on one of the highest mountain passes on the Srinagar-Leh highway around 4 am Saturday.

   

The driver died on the spot while the conductor was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The deceased driver has been identified as Muhammad Aslam Famda, 30, son of Abdul Gani Famda of Fraw Haknar Gund and his injured brother as Basharat Ahmed.

A police official said that a case under law has been registered in Police Station Khalsi, Leh and further investigation taken up.
