The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday admitted that scores of unauthorized private diagnostic centers were operating in the state, while maintaining that such centers will be closed down.
This was stated by the minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat while replying to a query in the Legislative Council of State Legislature.
The minister was replying to a query by MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta regarding the parameters for fixing the rates for the private diagnostic centers and steps taken by the government to get the illegal diagnostic centers closed.
The minister while replying to the query said, "There are number of unauthorized diagnostic centers operating illegally in the state. But the government will close down all these centers in future," the minister said while replying to the supplementary question raised by MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta.
The minister said around 225 laboratories were functioning in government sector while 461 Private laboratories have been registered under Jammu & Kashmir Nursing homes and Clinical Establishment Act in Jammu division
He said 114 X-rays machines are functioning in Government establishments while 65 have been registered under Jammu & Kashmir Nursing Homes and Clinical Establishment Act in Jammu Division.
"64 Ultrasound Machines in the government and 130 in private sector are registered in Jammu Division under PC & PNDT Act."
The minister said the department was trying "its best" to control the corruption and make all the sections and departments accountable in the state. "We are holding fortnightly or monthly review meetings regarding the issue and our focus remains to eliminate the corruption in the department," he said.
The minister said no illegal Blood Bank has been detected in Jammu division as the supervision and monitoring of blood banks is carried out during supervisory visits to the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes as well.
