Kupwara, June 18: The New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) Kutlari in Kupwara district is not only understaffed but also without basic diagnostic facilities.
The residents of Kutlari Mawer said that although a two-storey new building had been constructed few years back for this health centre, the lack of staff and other facilities were giving a tough time to villagers of Kutlari, Khudi, Hydermali, Drungsoo, Shahnagri, Mawer Balla, Darzi mohalla and Sanzipora.
The residents said that the health centre was understaffed, affecting the patient care.
Maternity care has also been hit badly due to non-availability of a gynecologist at NTPHC Kutlari.
The residents said that in absence of maternity care at the NTPHC, patients are forced to visit Primary Health Centre Qalamabad or Sub District Hospital Handwara for treatment.
The residents also complained about the lack of dental surgeon here.
They said that after the newly-constructed multi-storey building was taken over by the Health department, they were promised that a sophisticated dental ward would be established here.
However, the residents said neither the ward had been set up nor the dental surgeon was deputed after passing of several years.
The residents complained that in absence of X-ray and basic diagnostic testing facilities, they have to visit Handwara to conduct the tests.
They said that NTPHC Kutlari was also operating without an ambulance.
They have sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in this regard and appealed the administration to upgrade the existing facilities at NTPHC Kutlari.
Block Medical Officer, Langate, Dr Gowhar said, “We need services of more doctors for smooth functioning of the health centre. We have requested the department for more doctors at Langate zone.”
He said that unless the posts of a gynecologist, a dental surgeon, an X-ray technician, a laboratory technician, and USG and ECG technicians are created at NTPHC Kutlari, people cannot avail these facilities.
