Cannabis cultivation destroyed in south Kashmir

Excise department on Tuesday destroyed bhang (cannabis) plants in south Kashmir.

In a statement here today, it said a special team of excise department held an anti-bhang drive in south Kashmir on Tuesday. 

   

The team was headed by excise commissioner Talat Parviz Rohella and deputy excise commissioner Kashmir Muhammad Farooq Dar. JETOs Muhammad Altaf Rather and Saleem Akbar were also part of the team, which visited village Melhora in district Shopian, it said.

During the drive bhang (cannabis) grown on 580 kanals of land in village Malhara of Tehsil Zainapora district Shopian was destroyed, it said.

The manpower as well as machinery including tractors and brush cutters were put in use for efficient destruction of the crop, the statement said. 

During the drive local district administration provided all possible cooperation and protection while the civil society of the village appreciated the drive and pledged full support, the statement added.
