Convoy movement: No civilian traffic on Kashmir highway for two days every week

Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that nocivilian traffic would be allowed to ply on Srinagar-Jammu highway for two daysevery week in view of large movement of security forces during theparliamentary elections.

An official handout said the decision has been taken in viewof the large movement of security forces on the highway during theparliamentary elections and associated possibility of any fidayeen attacks.

   

“…the State Government has notified specified days in a weekfor the movement of Security Forces from Srinagar to Jammu. During these days,no civilian traffic would be allowed on the highway,” said the handout.

“To mitigate the inconvenience to the civilians by thismove, the government has notified two dedicated days in a week i.e, (Sunday& Wednesday) exclusively for movement of security forces convoys and therewould be a complete ban on civilian traffic on the highway during these twodays from 4 AM to 5 PM. This prohibition would be from Baramulla throughSrinagar, Qazigund, Jawahar-Tunnel, Banihal and Ramban till Udhampur.”The Government has, further decided that in theevent of any requirement for local traffic movement for any emergency or forother purpose, the local administration and police would evolve necessaryprocedures for this as is done during curfew days. “These restrictions wouldremain in force till 31st May, 2019,” said the handout.
