Dogs bite 18 people in Uri village

As many as 18 people were bitten by stray dogs on Thursday at a village here in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Two among the injured including a minor, were shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.

Officials said a pack of stray dogs appeared in Darawanvillage of Uri and attacked several people in separate incidents on Thursday.

   

All the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for immediatetreatment. Four among them were later shifted to sub District Hospital Uri foradvanced treatment.

Block Medical Officer Uri Muhammad Ramzan said that theyreceived four people with dog bites.

Two among the four including a two year old child wereshifted first to District Hospital Baramulla for specialized treatment andlater to Srinagar hospital. “The two year old child had wounds on his chest, hesaid.

An official identified the injured who were admitted at SDHUri as Haji Mohamad Ashrif, Arbaz Ahmed, Davood Ahmad, Amana Bano, TanjeedAhmad and Binyamin.

Among the injured Haji Mohamad Ashraf, 72, and Arbaz Ahmedwere shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.

The fresh incident of dog attack is third of its kind in twomonths.

Earlier seven people were injured in two separate incidentswhen a pack of stray dogs attacked a group of people in Uri market.

The fresh incident of attack by stray dogs has evoked strongresentment among the local residents.

The growing incident of dog attack had created extreme fearespecially among the school going children.

“Despite appraising the administration about the growingpopulation of stray dogs and possible threat to locals, the administration isunmoved. It seems they are not bothered about the people’s hardships,” saidFayaz Ahmad a local resident.
