Hanging by a thread: Narrow escape for over 30 passengers as bus hits parapet in Doda

A concrete parapet saved a bus carrying over 30 passengers from plunging into the Chenab river after it crashed on Batote-Kishtwar highway in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Reports said the bus (bearing registration number JK02 BK 5677) was on way to Padder Kishtwar from Jammu when it skidded off the road due to slippery condition and crashed onto a parapet in Gatsu area, five kilometres from Pul Doda.

“The vehicle hit the parapet and remained stuck in a hanging position over the river Chenab,” said Rajinder Singh ASP Bhadarwah.

He said all the passengers were safely evacuated from the bus with the help of locals.
