IED among ammo dropped through quadcopter recovered in Akhnoor

Jammu, Nov 23: Security forces Thursday recovered a consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives including an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that were dropped aerially using a quadcopter.

The incident came at a time when a fierce encounter was going on between security forces and terrorists in the Baaji Maal area of the Kalakote sub-division in Rajouri district.

   

Officials said that forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Lukikhad bridge area of Khour police station in Jammu’s Akhnoor subdivision.
During the operation on Thursday morning, the army said, one Turkey-made pistol with two magazines; thirty-eight bullets; nine grenades and one battery-operated IED were recovered.

The consignment was dropped through a quadcopter flown from across the Line of Control, the army said in its statement.
The Army added that based on the inputs from troops deployed in the forward areas of having heard quadcopter noise, a joint search operation was conducted by police and army in the vicinity of Lukikhad bridge.

“At about 7 am, a package was recovered and this has been one of the biggest hauls of quadcopter dropped war-like stores in the Akhnoor sector, which is aimed to revive terrorism in Rajouri and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu and Kashmir,” the army said.

Jammu Police on the other hand said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Khour and an investigation was going on.
