IED defused in Pulwama

Srinagar: Security forces on Thursday averted a major tragedy after they discovered and destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device on Newa- Srinagar road in Pulwama.

Police said that acting on intelligence reports, in a joint search operation of the Pulwama police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), “IED weighing approx 5 kgs was found assembled in a container.”

   

“Pulwama Police averted major tragedy. Acting on a specific information Pulwama Police along with 50 RR & 183 BN CRPF found an IED of approx. 5kg assembled in a container planted on Newa Srinagar road. However, BD squad of Police & Army destroyed it on spot @JmuKmrPolice,” Pulwama Police said in a tweet.

“Bomb disposal team of police and army destroyed the IED on spot through a controlled detonation,” the police added. The IED was found near the graveyard of village Wanpora in Pulwama.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident and an investigation has been initiated. The police also added that a few suspects are being questioned. This comes only two days after police arrested two militant associates affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Police in statement said: “Acting on a specific intelligence that terrorists have planted an IED on Newa -Srinagar road in Wanpora, a search operation was launched jointly by Pulwama police, 50RR and 183 BN CRPF. During search on IED was found planted roadside. The IED weighed approx 5 kgs and was assembled in a container. Bomb disposal team of police and army destroyed the IED on spot through controlled detonation. In this regard case has been registered and investigation taken up. Few suspects have been picked up for questioning,” police said. “With the timely action a major tragedy has been averted.”
