Industry-academia interface: KU inks pact with ARM

University of Kashmir Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with multinational IP company, ARM, under the latter’s ‘university program’.

Prof Akbar Masood, dean academic affairs signed thememorandum on behalf of the KU in presence of Prof Talat Ahmad vice-chancellorKU, Prof Zaffar Ahmad Reshi dean research, Prof F. A. Masoodi dean school ofapplied sciences and technology and others.

   

The vice-chancellor KU on the occasion advised the facultyand technical staff members of the department to utilise the services andbenefits provided by the ARM under the MoU.

“The MoU will empower our students with necessary skillsthrough study and hands-on training in the use of the ARM tools and help themget placement in the fast-growing industries including embedded systems,” ProfTalat Ahmad said.

ARM with its worldwide network of offices is a leadinglicensor of the processor IP designs to silicon vendors.

With over 14,000 cumulative signed licenses, 17 billionARM-based chips, 4500 patents, ARM has been dominating the market of processorIPs (CPU, Multimedia, Physical IPs, System IPs, and Security), a handout issuedby the KU said.

AporvaVerma, regional manager, University Program, SouthAsia, ARM, praised the KU for “its contribution and commitment towards academicand research excellence”.

Spelling out the benefits under the ARM University Program,Aporva said that it serves higher education with academically rigorouseducation kits and tools that use technologies from the ARM ecosystem inElectrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science includingFree Licensing of Keil MDK and DS for multiple concurrent users.
