Inmates at Sumbal quarantine centre decry lack of facilities

Amid the coronovirus spread, several people who have been quarantined at a centre here have alleged lack of facilities.

A patient said they were being give stale food and theconditions at the centre were unhygienic.

   

Another person said he had home quarantined himself. “But Iwas picked up by the authorities and dumped at this untidy facility,” he said,demanding that only two to three persons should be kept in one room.

Echoing the views, another inmate said lack of facilitieswas now taking toll on their mental health. “There is a single washroom foraround 30 persons,” he said.

“Our heath condition has deteriorated in this centre. Nobodylistens to our woes,” said another person.

Following the spike in coronavirus cases in Kashmir,administration in Bandipora established 18 quarantine centres for peoplearriving from abroad or Coronavirus affected areas to  prevent spread of the virus in district.

Two among these 18 centres have been established in Sumbal.

“Sumbal comprises around 100 villages. At least 110 peopleare being quarantined in these two centres,” said an official.

The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shabaz Mirza did notrespond to repeated call from this reporters to seek his comments about lack offacilities in the quarantine centres.

Nodal Officer, Syed Shahnawaz said they have provided “allbasic facilities” to the inmates at the quarantine centre.
